Key People Richard W. Wertheim In February 2002, Investor Relations magazine presented Richard Wertheim with its Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing him as “an individual who has made a truly exceptional contribution to investor relations in Canada.” Richard has been practicing investor and corporate relations in Canada and the United States for more than 30 years. Prior to founding Wertheim + Company in 1990, he established in 1976 one of the first IR programs in Canada at Northern Telecom (Nortel), where he subsequently served as Assistant Vice-President, Investor Relations through 1985, before being appointed Vice-President, Public Relations for the company's Canadian operations. He then joined a leading international communications agency as Senior Vice-President for its investor and corporate relations practice in Toronto. Richard has assisted a broad range of companies in developing and implementing effective corporate and investor strategies and communications programs in such areas as: investor and debtholder relations; public offerings; friendly and hostile mergers and acquisitions; buyouts and divestitures; qualitative investors' attitudes research studies; crisis preparedness and communications; corporate positioning; media relations; and other aspects of corporate public relations. Richard holds a B.S. degree in Economics from New York University, N.Y. Following four years with The New York Times, he joined a major international public relations agency, serving clients from its offices in New York and Toronto. Richard is a former director of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), Washington, D.C., and is a founder, former director, and past president of the Canadian branch of NIRI, which was the forerunner of the Canadian Investor Relations Institute (CIRI). He is a past recipient of CIRI's "Excellence in Investor Relations" award. He has also been a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society, International Association of Business Communicators, Public Affairs Association of Canada, the Financial Services Institute, and the Toronto Venture Group. In the fall of 2002, Richard’s stature and expertise in the Canadian investment community was recognized when he was appointed to serve on the Ontario Securities Commission’s Advisory Committee on Continuous Disclosure.
